What AED Training Covers
The course follows the basic life support sequence in the order you would use it in a real emergency: check for danger, check response, open the airway, look for normal breathing for up to ten seconds, call 999, send for the nearest AED, then begin compressions at a depth of around 5 to 6 centimetres and a rate of 100 to 120 per minute. The AED is brought into that sequence as soon as it arrives, not treated as a separate skill.
Content is fixed and practical rather than theoretical padding:
- Recognising cardiac arrest: unresponsiveness, absent or agonal breathing, and the difference between a faint and an arrest.
- Compression-only and full CPR: hand position on the centre of the chest, 30 compressions to 2 rescue breaths, full chest recoil, and rotating rescuers every two minutes to limit fatigue.
- AED operation: switch on, follow voice prompts, expose and dry the chest, correct pad placement below the right collarbone and on the left flank below the armpit, stand clear for analysis, deliver the shock, resume compressions immediately.
- Safety precautions: water, metal surfaces, oxygen, transdermal patches, implanted pacemakers, excessive chest hair and paediatric pad or attenuator use.
- Life-threatening bleed control: now trained on every course we run, including direct pressure and catastrophic haemorrhage awareness.
Every element is instructor-led with hands-on repetition, because a skill practised once on a manikin is retained far better than one only described.

Who the Course Is For in Reading
No previous first aid qualification is required. Delegates arrive as complete beginners or as existing first aiders topping up defibrillator competence, and the training is pitched so both leave able to run the sequence unaided.
Typical groups in Reading include offices around Market Place and St Mary's Butts, retail units along Oxford Road, gyms and sports clubs, schools, care settings, and residents' associations responsible for a cabinet-mounted public AED. Older multi-occupancy buildings matter here: Reading Borough Council's conservation-area appraisal for Castle Street and Castle Hill notes that the remaining Georgian villas and terraces are concentrated along Castle Street and Castle Hill, Coley Hill, Oxford Road, Russell Street and Baker Street, and in converted buildings like those the walk to a wall-mounted unit and back up a narrow staircase is part of the drill we rehearse. If you need defibrillator aed training in Reading or aed training services Milton Keynes, we cover the whole area.

Course Content and Practical Assessment in Reading
Assessment is continuous and practical, carried out by the trainer while you work. There is no written exam to revise for. Each delegate is observed completing the full sequence on a manikin with a training AED, and the trainer signs off against fixed criteria.
- Correct primary survey and recognition of arrest within the first minute.
- Compression depth, rate and recoil sustained through a full two-minute cycle.
- Pad placement accurate on the first attempt, chest exposed and dried.
- Clear verbal commands: shock warning given, all rescuers and bystanders clear of the casualty.
- Compressions restarted within seconds of the shock being delivered.
- Safe handover to ambulance crew, with a spoken summary of what was done.
Delegates who need a second run through a station get one; the trainer stays with the group until each person is competent. Whether you need defibrillator aed training in Reading or defibrillator training in Windsor, we cover the whole area.

Workplace Use of an AED
A defibrillator on the wall is only as useful as the people nearest to it. The Health and Safety Executive expects employers to base first aid provision on a needs assessment of the workplace, and where an AED is installed, trained users are a reasonable part of that provision. Our defibrillator training services put the device into your own building, with your own layout and your own staff.
Practical workplace points covered on the day:
- Cabinet location, access codes and who holds them across shifts.
- Pad expiry dates and battery status checks, and who logs them.
- Retrieval route timing from the furthest desk or floor.
- Escalation: who calls 999, who meets the ambulance, who clears the route.
- Post-incident actions, including replacing pads and reporting.
First aid courses are accredited by FAIB, and certification lasts three years, recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE. Our mental health courses are accredited by FAA. Aim2Aid Ltd is registered at 70 Fountain Gardens, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 3SX, company number 16319053.

Course Format and Duration
The AED and CPR session is short and self-contained, which is the main reason it causes so little disruption. It is staged around your working day: the trainer sets up manikins and training units in about fifteen minutes, runs the taught sequence, then works through practical stations group by group so one part of your team can keep the phones covered while the other trains, then swap.
A meeting room, staff room or cleared floor space is all that is needed. There is no drilling, no dust and no equipment left behind, and the room is back to normal use within minutes of the last assessment. Where the course sits inside a wider qualification, the durations are as set: Emergency First Aid at Work is one day, about six hours, up to 12 delegates, with a 3-year certificate.
Blended delivery is available as an option on the relevant courses, with the theory completed online beforehand and the hands-on element, including AED practice and bleed control, delivered at your venue. For Emergency First Aid at Work that keeps the same one day, roughly six hours, up to 12 delegates and the same 3-year certificate, while shortening the time your staff spend away from their desks. Rebecca will confirm the right format for your team in Reading and across Berkshire and surrounding areas.

People Also Ask: Defibrillator AED Training in Reading
Can anyone use a defibrillator without training?
Yes. An AED will not deliver a shock unless it detects a shockable rhythm, and the voice prompts guide any bystander. Training matters because it removes hesitation, gets pad placement right first time and keeps compressions going between shocks.
How do I get defibrillator training in Reading?
Call or message Rebecca on 07771 680794 with your delegate numbers, your Reading postcode and the room you plan to use. You get a written quote, then confirm a date and the trainer comes to you with all equipment.
Do you deliver the course at our own premises in Reading?
Yes. Training is delivered at your premises only, anywhere in Reading and across Berkshire and surrounding areas, whether that is an office off Market Place, a retail unit on Oxford Road or a converted building on Castle Street.
Is there a practical assessment, and do I need previous first aid training?
There is a continuous practical assessment on a manikin with a training AED, observed by the trainer. No previous first aid training is required to attend.
How long does the certificate last and is it recognised for our Reading workplace?
First aid certification lasts three years and is recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE. Our first aid courses are accredited by FAIB, so the certificate is appropriate for workplace first aid provision.
