Most people assume paediatric first aid is adult first aid scaled down for smaller bodies. Step into the room and that assumption falls apart within the first hour: infant CPR, choking response and anaphylaxis all use different techniques, different depths and different decisions, and getting them wrong on a baby is worse than doing nothing.

Summary

  • Full paediatric first aid runs twelve hours over two days; emergency paediatric runs six hours in one day.
  • FAIB accredited, with three-year certification recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE.

  • Life-threatening bleed control is now trained on every course, paediatric included.

Paediatric First Aid Course

What Paediatric First Aid Covers

People book paediatric first aid expecting a softer version of adult training. It is not. A baby's airway, a toddler's ribcage and a child's response to blood loss all behave differently, and the technique changes with them. That is the awkward part: the habits you learned on an adult manikin can work against you here.

The course covers what actually happens in a nursery, a school room or a family home. Choking in an infant and choking in a child. CPR on a baby using two fingers, on a child using one hand. Febrile convulsions and seizures. Anaphylaxis and auto-injector use. Asthma attacks. Burns, scalds, head injuries, fractures, bleeding, shock and the recovery position adapted for size. Meningitis signs and when they cannot wait.

Life-threatening bleed control is trained on every course we run, paediatric included. Catastrophic bleeding kills fast. Delegates practise pressure, packing and tourniquet principles rather than reading about them.

  • Infant and child CPR, with and without a defibrillator
  • Choking, partial and complete obstruction
  • Anaphylaxis, allergies and auto-injector practice
  • Seizures, febrile convulsions and unresponsive casualties
  • Bleeding, burns, breaks and head injuries
  • Casualty assessment and calling for help clearly

Nothing here is theoretical padding. Every topic maps to something a childcare worker in Windsor has already had to deal with.

Paediatric First Aid Course

EYFS, Ofsted and Childcare Compliance

The compliance question is where most people get stuck, and it is a fair worry. Buy the wrong course and the certificate sits in a folder doing nothing for your registration. Ofsted inspectors do check. Nursery managers get asked for evidence, not reassurance.

Our paediatric first aid training is accredited by FAIB, and the certification is recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE. That is the combination the Early Years Foundation Stage framework expects for staff counting towards ratios. The Health and Safety Executive sets out how first aid training and provider standards work in the workplace, and the same discipline applies to early years settings.

Childminders registering for the first time need the same standard as an established nursery chain. So do nannies. We do not run a lighter version for either. One syllabus, one assessment, one certificate.

Course Formats and Duration for Windsor Homes

The honest problem with a two-day course is staffing. A nursery in Windsor cannot lose six people for twelve hours of classroom time without gutting the rota. That is why format matters more than most providers admit.

The full paediatric first aid course runs twelve hours across two days and is the qualification early years staff generally need. Emergency paediatric first aid runs six hours in one day and suits assistants, volunteers, sports coaches and parents. Blended delivery is available as an option: the theory is completed online at your own pace, and the practical element is delivered at your premises so the hands-on assessment still happens face to face with a trainer in the room. Duration and compliance stay the same, and the certificate remains valid for three years.

Whether you need a paediatric first aid course in Windsor or first aid at work services Windsor employers rely on, we cover the whole area and the surrounding villages. Training happens at your premises. That matters in a town where a converted Georgian house on Sheet Street and a modern flat conversion near the Thames present different room sizes, different stairs and different constraints on where you can lay six manikins out. We work with the space you have.

Certification and Validity in Windsor

Certificates get questioned. Yours should survive that. Every delegate who completes a paediatric first aid course with us receives a three-year certificate, recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE, issued under FAIB accreditation for our first aid provision. Our mental health courses are accredited by FAA, which is a separate body for a separate discipline, and we keep the two straight rather than blanketing one across everything.

Three years is the validity period. Set a reminder at thirty months. Renewal is a fresh course, not a rubber stamp, because skills decay and the guidelines get updated.

Aim2Aid Ltd is registered at 70 Fountain Gardens, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 3SX, company number 16319053. The company is based in the town it trains in.

Who the Course Is For

Some people book the wrong level and find out on the day. That wastes money and time, so it is worth being blunt about who needs what.

  • Nursery and pre-school staff counting towards EYFS ratios: full twelve-hour course
  • Childminders and nannies registering or renewing with Ofsted: full twelve-hour course
  • Teaching assistants, after-school clubs and sports coaches: emergency paediatric first aid usually covers it, check your policy
  • Parents, grandparents and babysitters: emergency paediatric first aid, booked as a group
  • Schools arranging cover across multiple age groups

If you are a workplace with a creche or a family room, our Emergency First Aid at Work course includes paediatric content at no extra cost. That is a genuine inclusion, not an upsell you decline later. Ask about it for your staff before you book two separate days.

Course Dates, Venues and Delivery Options

We do not run open courses for individual delegates, and we do not have a public training centre. Training is delivered at your premises only. Some people want a scheduled date at a venue in town. We cannot offer that, and we would rather say so on the page than waste your phone call.

Getting a date agreed

Call or email with your group size, your setting type and the level you need. Rebecca will confirm which course applies and what the day involves. Dates are set around your rota, including weekends and INSET days.

Setting up the room

You need floor space for manikins and somewhere for people to kneel. We bring the equipment, including infant and junior manikins, trainer defibrillators and auto-injector trainers. Older buildings in the Windsor conservation area often have smaller rooms than expected, so tell us the dimensions in advance.

The training day

Practical work dominates. Delegates handle every skill themselves rather than watching a demonstration. Assessment is continuous through the day plus a short written element, so nobody sits an exam cold at the end.

After the course

Certificates follow within a few working days. If a delegate misses a session through illness, tell us and we will sort a way to complete it rather than writing off their place.

Practical Skills Taught

The weakness in a lot of first aid training is that people leave having watched more than they have done. Confidence collapses under pressure if the hands have never rehearsed the movement.

Delegates compress an infant manikin until the depth is right. They roll a child into the recovery position, back-blow a choking toddler manikin, fire a trainer auto-injector into a thigh, pack a wound and apply a tourniquet. They practise handing over to an ambulance crew in plain sentences, because a garbled call costs minutes.

Our trainers are in-house. We never outsource to a freelance pool, and the team is led by Rebecca Sullivan, who does not deliver every session herself but does stand behind every one. Between them the trainers bring over fifty years of combined experience, much of it in front of nursery staff and school teams across Windsor and Berkshire. You can read what previous clients have said through the reviews widget on our site.

Skills fade without repetition. That is why the practical share of the day is deliberate and why we come to you rather than asking you to travel. Book once, train properly, renew in three years.

Emergency paediatric first aid is six hours in one day. With blended delivery, the theory is completed online and the practical element is still delivered face to face at your premises.

Is the course accepted for childminder and nanny registration in Windsor?

Yes. The training is FAIB accredited and the three-year certificate is recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE, which is the standard Ofsted expects for childminder and nanny registration in Windsor and across Berkshire. Childminders sit the same full course as nursery staff.

Do you run open courses at a venue in Windsor?

No. We train at your premises only, anywhere in Windsor, across Berkshire and surrounding areas, so we do not run scheduled open courses for individual delegates. Tell us your room size when you book, as older buildings in the historic core often have tighter spaces for manikin work.
