Course Overview

Emergency First Aid at Work is the one-day qualification written for exactly that setting: a named first aider on site who can act inside the first few minutes. What You Will Learn

A first aid kit bolted to a plasterboard wall in a Great Hollands office is no use if nobody knows what the trauma dressing inside it is for. The day is built around practical handling: kneeling on the floor, working on a manikin, using the equipment rather than reading about it. Life support and defibrillation

Delegates practise adult CPR on manikins, learn recovery position handling for an unconscious casualty, and work through choking on a live scenario. AED use is trained with a practice unit, including pad placement over clothing and on a chest that has been shaved or dried.

Bleeding, burns and shock

Life-threatening bleed control is now trained on every course we run, using direct pressure, dressings and tourniquet technique. Burns and scalds, shock, seizures and anaphylaxis are all covered, which matters where hot works, kettles and chemical stores sit in the same building.

Incident management and paperwork

Staff learn how to take charge of a scene, hand over to the ambulance service, and complete accident reporting properly. Paediatric first aid content is included at no extra cost, which suits a workplace where children are on site.

Course Format and Duration in Bracknell

Bracknell Forest's housing stock is young, with around 70.5% built after 1964, and the same planning shows in commercial premises: newer units, tighter floorplates, meeting rooms sized for a dozen people. That suits the format. Emergency first aid at work runs as one day of about six hours for up to 12 delegates, delivered entirely at your premises. All we ask for is floor space, a wipeable surface and somewhere to stand a flipchart.

The full emergency first aid at work standard can also be taken as a blended course: the theory is completed online in your own time, and the practical session is then run at your venue. The one-day, six-hour structure, the cap of 12 delegates and the three-year certificate all stay the same, so compliance does not change. Blended simply moves the classroom part off the shop floor.

We do not run open courses for individual delegates. Training is delivered at your workplace only, which is why the shift-pattern conversation matters more than a timetable.

Assessment and Certification

Assessment happens on the day, in the same room, on the same manikin. There is no separate exam sitting. Trainers assess practical competence continuously: chest compressions at depth and rate, a clean primary survey, correct dressing of a catastrophic bleed, safe AED sequence. Understanding is checked through questioning through the day.

The Health and Safety Executive expects employers to base first aid provision on a needs assessment of the workplace, and this qualification is the standard answer for a lower-risk site.
