Most people assume paediatric first aid is workplace first aid with the numbers scaled down, and then they get into the baby room and find out otherwise. An infant airway, a febrile seizure and a nappy-change fall have nothing in common with an adult collapse on a shop floor, and the technique changes with the size of the casualty. That is why the course is taught on its own, on your own floor, with infant and child manikins.
The Quick Answer
- Full paediatric first aid is two days and twelve hours; emergency paediatric first aid is one day and around six hours, both up to 12 delegates.
- Certificates run for 3 years, are FAIB accredited and are recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE.
- Blended delivery is an option: online theory first, then the practical session at your premises.
- Life-threatening bleed control is now trained on every course, alongside infant CPR, choking and anaphylaxis.
- Training happens at your premises in Woking and across Berkshire and surrounding areas, on dates that fit your rota.
Trainers are in-house and never outsourced, led by Rebecca Sullivan with over 50 years of combined experience, and the same team also delivers mental health first aid in Woking; see the reviews widget on the site for what settings say.

What Paediatric First Aid Covers
Paediatric first aid covers illness and injury in babies and children: choking, CPR on an infant and on a child, bleeding, burns, seizures, allergic reaction and head injury, taught with the casualty assessment that comes before any of it.
Walk into a Woking nursery playroom and the floor is foam matting over a solid screed, with low tables and a nappy change unit against the far wall. That is where the practice happens. Kneeling work on matting is different from kneeling on a hall floor, and the manikins go down where the children go down. Every course now includes life-threatening bleed control, because a deep cut from a broken beaker or a garden tool does not wait for an ambulance.
Our trainers are in-house. Aim2Aid Ltd does not outsource a single session, and the team is led by Rebecca Sullivan, with over 50 years of combined experience between them. The training is delivered at your premises, so the setting is your setting.

Certification and Validity in Woking
The certificate that matters is the paper an inspector asks for, and the wall it ends up pinned to in the office next to the fire log. Ours is a 3-year certification, accredited by FAIB and recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE. It is accepted for childcare registration, including childminders and nannies working on their own.
What the paperwork actually says
Each delegate is named on their own certificate with the course title and the issue date. Keep a copy in the staffing file and diarise the renewal at 33 months, not at 36, because ratios slip the moment one certificate lapses.
Coverage across the area
The same team also runs a paediatric first aid course in Slough. We cover the whole area. Woking and across Berkshire and surrounding areas is our patch, and the trainer travels to you.
Assessment on the day
Assessment is continuous and practical. You are watched doing chest compressions on the infant manikin, watched clearing an obstructed airway, watched dressing a bleed. Short written questions confirm the theory. No trick paper, no ambush.
Who the Course Is For in Woking
Half the calls come from houses, not settings. A Victorian terrace with a steep staircase and a galley kitchen puts a toddler within reach of a hob and a stair gate on a wonky architrave. A newer estate house has an open-plan ground floor, a wood burner and a garden pond. The hazards differ by building, and so does the shape of the session we run in it.
Childminders and nannies
Working alone in a domestic property means you are the whole response: you call, you treat, you manage the other children. We rehearse it that way, in your front room, with the phone in your hand.
Nursery and pre-school staff
Group settings need consistency between staff, so the handover on a poorly child reads the same from any of them. Teams of up to 12 delegates train together in one room.
Parents, grandparents and carers
No compliance driver, just the wish to know what to do at two in the morning. The content is identical. The pace is calmer.
Course Dates, Venues and Delivery Options
Village halls in and around Woking have hard chairs, one socket and a hatch to the kitchen. We do not use them. Training is delivered at your premises only, whether that is a nursery baby room, a school staff room or a kitchen table with the chairs pushed back.
Dates are set around your rota. Twilight sessions, weekends and INSET days all work, and we bring the manikins, the trainer bandages, the AED trainer and the paperwork. You provide floor space and a kettle.
There are no open courses for individual delegates, and no scheduled venue list, because we come to you. Call and we will quote for free, with a date attached.
Practical Skills Taught
The infant manikin has a sprung chest that clicks at correct depth, and delegates hear the difference within a few attempts. That feedback is the point of face-to-face work.
Across the course delegates practise:
- Infant CPR and child CPR, with the AED trainer for the older child
- Choking sequences, back blows and abdominal thrusts, sized to the casualty
- Recovery position for a baby and for a child
- Life-threatening bleed control, including pressure, dressings and tourniquet awareness
- Burns and scalds, cooling times, cling film and what not to put on
- Anaphylaxis and auto-injector technique with a trainer pen
- Febrile seizures, meningitis signs, asthma and diabetic emergencies
- Head, bone, muscle and joint injuries, plus sensible recording
Everyone gets hands on. Nobody watches from a chair.
EYFS, Ofsted and Childcare Compliance
The EYFS framework is unforgiving about numbers: a paediatric-trained first aider on site whenever children are present, and on outings too. That is a rota problem before it is a training problem, which is why settings usually train more staff than the minimum.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) sets out that employers must assess their own first aid needs rather than work from a fixed rule, and the same logic serves a childcare setting well: count the rooms, the outings and the leave patterns, then train to that.
Our first aid courses are FAIB accredited. Our mental health courses, which are a separate thing, are accredited by FAA, and staff wellbeing training sits alongside the paediatric work for many nurseries. Keep the two straight in your files.
Aim2Aid Ltd is registered at 70 Fountain Gardens, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 3SX, company number 16319053, if a compliance officer asks who trained your team.
Course Formats and Duration
Two lengths cover almost every setting, and the choice is usually decided by the registration route rather than by preference.
Full paediatric first aid runs over two days, twelve hours in total, and is the qualification most nurseries, pre-schools and childminders need for EYFS purposes. Up to 12 delegates.
Emergency paediatric first aid runs over one day, around six hours, and suits support staff, sports coaches and parents. Up to 12 delegates.
Blended delivery is available as an option: the theory is completed online in your own time, then the practical half is delivered at your venue, with the same 3-year certificate and the same compliance standing at the end. Settings running short on cover tend to choose it, because it takes less time off the floor.
Worth mentioning: our Emergency First Aid at Work course, one day and about six hours for up to 12 delegates with a 3-year certificate, is added to every paediatric course at no extra cost. For a business with a creche, a holiday club or a staff nursery, that covers two duties with one booking.
Rebecca will tell you plainly which format your setting needs.
