A team that notices a colleague going quiet, says something useful, and knows exactly where to send them next. That is what an Aylesbury workplace has at the end of this course.

First Aid for Mental Health

Mental Health First Aid Training Overview

Most Aylesbury sites we train on have one room that goes quiet: a mess room with a kettle, a bench, a whiteboard nobody wipes. That room is where a First Aid for Mental Health course lands. The training teaches your people to notice the signs of poor mental health in a colleague, open a conversation without making it worse, and signpost to professional help. It runs instructor-led, in small groups, at your premises.

The course sits on a first aid basis. Same habit as a physical casualty: look, listen, act, hand over. Rebecca built the sessions around discussion rather than slides, because the skill being learned is a conversation, not a procedure. Delegates leave with something they will actually use.

  • Spotting early signs of mental ill health in staff and colleagues
  • Starting and holding a supportive conversation
  • Signposting to professional support and internal routes
  • Looking after your own wellbeing as a first aider

Practical training, delivered where you work.

Workplace and Group Training Options

A yard office with three desks and a portacabin has a different problem to a warehouse with forty on shift. Both come up in Aylesbury. We deliver group training for your staff on your own site, so nobody loses half a day travelling and the examples used in the room are the ones your team recognise: lone working, shift patterns, a driver who has stopped talking on the radio.

All training is delivered at your premises. There are no open sessions for individual delegates, which means every course is a private group booking for your workplace. Trainers are in-house, never subcontracted, with Rebecca Sullivan leading the team and over 50 years of combined experience behind them. You get the same people, the same standard, every visit.

Who the Course Is For in Aylesbury

Think of a converted terrace off the Tring Road run as supported accommodation, or a care home with a laundry room, a staff kitchen and a sign-in book by the door. Residential settings put staff within arm's length of distress every single shift, and the handover book rarely captures it. The course is built for exactly that kind of building and that shape of job.

It suits care and support staff, housing officers, site supervisors, office managers, school and college staff, and anyone nominated as a mental health first aider for your business. No prior knowledge is needed. Complete beginners sit alongside experienced managers and both get value, because the content works from observation upward rather than from theory down.

Beginners cope with this course fine.

Accreditation and Certification for Aylesbury Workplaces

Compliance folders in most Aylesbury premises hold the same items: a fire risk assessment, an accident book, certificates in a plastic wallet. The mental health certificate goes in beside them. Our First Aid for Mental Health courses are accredited by FAA. Our first aid courses are accredited by FAIB, which is a separate body and a separate scope, and we keep the two apart deliberately. Certification runs for 3 years and is recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE.

Assessment is continuous through the day rather than a written exam, so nobody is sitting a test paper. If you need first aid for mental health in Aylesbury or emergency first aid at work in Aylesbury, we cover the whole area and the surrounding areas. Aim2Aid Ltd is company number 16319053, if you want to check us before you book.

What You Learn on the Course

A supervisor once described a lad on a roofing gang going from talkative to silent over three weeks, and nobody had a script for it. The course gives you the script. Content covers what poor mental health looks like day to day, the difference between a bad week and something that needs escalating, depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicidal thoughts, and the safeguarding boundary you do not cross.

Delegates practise the conversation itself in pairs and small groups, then work through signposting: GP, occupational health, employee assistance, crisis routes. That practice is the part people remember. Our wider mental health first aid services sit alongside the physical first aid range, so a workplace can build a full cover rota from one provider.

  • Recognising signs and changes in behaviour
  • Non-judgemental listening and questioning
  • Signposting to appropriate professional help
  • Recording, confidentiality and safeguarding limits
  • Self-care for the first aider

Course Dates, Availability, and Booking

Booking usually starts with a shift rota and a room that is free on a Tuesday. We work around both. Availability across Aylesbury and Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas is arranged direct, and the sequence is short.

Tell us the room and the numbers

Call or email with delegate numbers and the space you have. A mess room, boardroom or training room with chairs and a wall for a screen is enough.

Pick a date that fits the rota

We hold dates around shifts, term time and quiet periods. Early starts and later finishes are workable.

Confirm and receive joining details

You get a written quote, a confirmed date and joining instructions covering what the trainer brings and what the room needs.

Train and certificate

The trainer arrives, sets up, delivers and assesses through the day. Certificates follow, valid for 3 years.

First Aid for Mental Health

Youth and Adult Course Variants

School staff rooms and youth club halls need something different to a plant depot. The youth pathway covers young people: how distress presents differently in adolescence, the safeguarding duty that sits over every conversation, and how school or club referral routes work. The adult pathway covers colleagues and staff.

Both run on the same first aid basis and both carry FAA accreditation and a 3-year certificate. Our trainers also deliver first aid for mental health in Guildford. We cover the whole area. Tell Rebecca which group your delegates support and she will point you at the right variant.

One pathway, chosen properly, beats two half-fits.

Course Format and Delivery

Chairs in a horseshoe, a flipchart, a socket for the projector. That is the whole kit list. Sessions are instructor-led with group discussion, case scenarios and paired practice, delivered face to face at your premises by an in-house trainer.

Blended delivery is available as an option on this course: the theory is completed online in your own time, then the discussion and scenario work is done in person at your venue. The certificate is the same, valid for 3 years, and the compliance position is unchanged. Life-threatening bleed control is now trained on every course we run, including alongside mental health bookings where a workplace wants both covered in one visit. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) sets out what employers must provide for first aid at work, and we keep our courses aligned to it.

Delivered on your site, around your shifts.
