The job runs in a set order: you call, we ask how many staff and what room you can spare, we agree a date around your shifts, the trainer arrives early on the day and sets up in one room, theory and practical run through about six hours, and certificates follow afterwards.

Emergency First Aid at Work

Course Overview

Emergency First Aid at Work is a one day course, about six hours of contact time, run on your own premises with up to 12 delegates. It leads to a three year certificate recognised by HSE, Ofsted and the DfE.

Most Maidenhead workplaces we train in are ordinary working buildings: a first floor office over a shop on Bath Road, a workshop unit with a concrete floor and a roller shutter, a converted Victorian terrace with a narrow staircase and one usable meeting room. That layout decides where the manikins go and how the practical runs. The course is accredited by FAIB, and the trainers are in-house, led by Rebecca Sullivan, never subcontracted out to a stranger with a folder.

Content covers CPR, AED use, choking, shock, burns and scalds, anaphylaxis, unconscious casualty care and accident reporting. Life-threatening bleed control is now trained on every course we run, including this one. For staff with children on site, paediatric content is included at no extra cost.

One day, one room, a valid certificate.

Course Format and Duration for Maidenhead Homes

A standard office table pushed against the wall and a two metre strip of clear carpet is enough floor space for CPR practice. We bring the manikins, the training AED pads, the face shields and the bandages. Nothing is fixed to a wall, nothing is drilled, and the room goes back as it was.

The day runs about six hours including breaks, so a single meeting room is out of use for one working day and no more. Staff who need to step out for a call can. If losing a room for a full day is the sticking point, blended delivery solves it: delegates complete the theory online in their own time, then attend a shorter practical session at your premises. The qualification, the six hours of learning and the three year certificate are identical either way.

If you need emergency first aid at work in Maidenhead or aed training services Maidenhead, we cover the whole town and the surrounding areas.

First contact and site check

You call or email, we ask how many delegates, what the work involves and what room you have. Boyn Hill, Belmont, Cox Green or a unit off Sheephouse Road, it is a short drive either way.

Setting the date

We agree a date that suits your rota, including quieter days or a Saturday if the floor cannot lose people midweek. Numbers are confirmed up to 12.

The training day

The trainer arrives early, sets up in around fifteen minutes, and works through theory and practical in sequence. Kit is packed away at the end of the session.

Paperwork after

Certificates follow, and your records are updated with names and expiry dates so your next renewal is not a surprise.

Assessment and Certification for Maidenhead Homes

Assessment happens in the room you are already sitting in, on the same mat used for practice. There is no separate exam hall and no travel.

Delegates are assessed continuously through the day by the trainer, with practical demonstrations on the manikin: chest compressions at the right depth and rate, recovery position, response to a choking casualty, and direct pressure with a bandage on a bleed. There is a short written element alongside it. Nobody is caught out, because everything assessed has been taught and rehearsed that day.

Successful delegates receive a FAIB accredited certificate valid for three years, accepted across the UK, and it satisfies employers and insurers asking for a nominated first aider. If someone struggles on a skill, the trainer works with them again on the day rather than marking them down and moving on.

Assessed as you go, no surprises.

Older Maidenhead buildings work against you here. Town centre and Grenfell Park properties include Victorian and 1920s-30s housing, often converted to offices, with narrow stairs and awkward corridors. A casualty on the second floor of a period terrace is a slower reach than one in a modern unit on a new estate at the edge of town.

Under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 you must provide adequate first aid equipment, facilities and people. For a low risk workplace such as an office or a small shop, Emergency First Aid at Work is the level normally expected, as Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance sets out. Your own needs assessment decides the number of first aiders, and access is part of that judgement.

If you need emergency first aid at work in Maidenhead or emergency first aid for schools services Maidenhead, we cover the whole area and can advise on what your staff numbers require.

Certificates run three years. Diary the expiry.

What You Will Learn and Who the Course Is For

Think about the actual hazards in your building: a kettle and a hot water tap in the kitchenette, a fuse board in a cupboard, a delivery bay where someone lifts badly, a first aid box on the wall with a bandage nobody has opened. The course puts real skills behind that box.

Delegates finish able to manage an unconscious casualty, deliver CPR, use an AED, deal with choking, control severe bleeding, and recognise shock, burns, scalds and anaphylaxis. Incident management and accident reporting are covered so the paperwork after the event is right too.

It suits nominated first aiders in low risk workplaces, supervisors, site managers, shop and office staff, and anyone whose team works near the public around Kidwells Park or the riverside at Boulter's Lock during events. Rebecca's trainers bring over 50 years of combined experience between them, and the teaching is plain and practical for your staff.

Practical skills for your workplace, taught properly.
